Cultural destinations

To properly get a feel for the town, it’s best to do so on foot. And what better way than on a guided tour,  learning about the history of the villas, synagogues and other notable spots. The tour also makes a stop at Palast Hohenems, one of the biggest renaissance buildings in western Austria. All this turns a pleasant walk into a trip back in time, something that can be further accentuated with a medieval-themed meal at the palace restaurant.

The route up to the ruins of Alt-Ems castle equally combines brisk exercise with historical intrigue; a history tour there provides plenty of interesting stories to discuss. And, time-depending, why not check out its counterpart, the Neu-Ems Castle, also known as Glopper Castle.

Culinary tips

Food brings people together; cooking even more so. At Livi's Kitchen in Hohenems’s Markstrasse, your team can get stuck right in – chopping, seasoning, sampling, and eating together. Not only will everyone be well fed, conversations will also flow freely while learning something new in a relaxed atmosphere. Of course, it's also possible without chopping or cooking: at an exclusive dinner at Pansi's Kochmeisterei, the team can sit right at the Chef’s Table where the action is. There’s space for up to 10 people for this “Alpine Culinary” experience.

If your team has a sweet tooth, look no further than Fenkart Schokoladenwelt right on Schlossplatz in the centre. During a tour, you can check out all corners of this 300 m2 chocolatey world, sample various chocolates and even make your own. And of course, everyone can take a souvenir home at the end. The day can be perfectly rounded off by stopping at Emsbach Bierwelt to try various beers.

Outdoor destinations

Groups looking to combine their conference activities with some exercise will have a field day here. The Schuttannen high valley is a veritable paradise of hiking trails, complete with mountain inns and huts for rest stops. The initial ascent can be made by public bus or car. For a more challenging hike, consider Hohenems' local mountain, the Hohe Kugel, at 1,645 meters. Starting in town, hiking up via the Gsohlalpe and back down to the valley via the Kugelalpe covers approximately 11 kilometers and an elevation gain of about 1,165 meters.

You can also hike in Hohenems without hiking boots. The alluvial forests around the Old Rhine offer beautiful nature trails that require no athletic ambition. The easy circular hiking trail around the Old Rhine starts at the Hohenems customs office, takes 1.2 hours, and covers 4.8 kilometers on level ground through nature.

Indoor destinations

There are also strong indoor options for weather-proof activities. The Jewish Museum tells the story of the Jewish community in the city, showing the interplay between past and present, locals and immigrants. It addresses current issues of remembrance, migration, and coexistence; a visit goes far beyond traditional history lessons.

The Schubertiade Museum  offers a chance to look back and discover together who the composer Franz Schubert really was. The museum is open during the Schubertiade festival and, by appointment, also offers visits outside of regular hours.

Just a short drive from Hohenems, the team can stay active even in the rain and hit some balls indoors. Indoor Golf in Götzis offers modern simulators for group tournaments across approximately 500 square meters.
