Convention App Vorarlberg

The new Vorarlberg Convention App was successfully used at two conferences in September. Participants, organisers and Convention Partner Vorarlberg were able to gain important insights at the Global Fibre Congress and the International LED professional Symposium. The app provides information about the event, the location and the region and puts completely new communication options at the participants’ disposal for and at the events.

Convention Partner Vorarlberg joined forces with the software manufacturer Festivality to develop an innovative app that could be used at conferences and meetings in response to a feasibility study that was conducted by Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences, which confirmed the need for a new app. The new app has now been put to the test at two specialist congresses. The first was the 57th Dornbirn Global Fibre Congress (GFC) at the Kulturhaus Dornbirn, which took place from 12 to 14 September. This was followed by the 8th International LED professional Symposium + Expo (LpS) in Bregenz, which ran from 25 to 27 September.

Extensive range of information

The app does not only provide such basics as the detailed programme, portraits of the speakers and location details. It also presents extensive information about the surrounding region, including details that range from restaurants to sights. The new app naturally makes it additionally possible for all programme items and presentations to be reviewed and thus provide the organisers with valuable information for future events. One of the app’s other main features is that it enables participants to communicate with each other. It’s available for download on end devices using the Android or IOS operating systems from the respective stores.

Both participants and organisers were impressed by the new tool’s performance. “Seventy percent of participants used the app during the event. It was utilised, among other things, to arrange many meetings,” says Friedrich Weninger, the Dornbirn GFC’s organiser: “The app thus contributed to successful networking.”

App as a central communications tool

Urs Treuthardt, Managing Director at Convention Partner Vorarlberg, is satisfied with the response: “A lot of time and know-how went into developing the app. We’ve now got an important additional service that will help improve the quality of meetings and conferences.” Comprehensive information that includes points of interest as well as timetable information from linked transport system V-Mobil have been or are to be integrated. The development is also taking place with an eye to the World Gymnaestrada, which will be bringing thousands of visitors from all over the world to Vorarlberg in 2019.

Information about the region and location is being provided by his office, information about the event is being provided by the organizers. The app is not a gimmick but an instrument to enhance the quality of events: “The decisive factor is that the app is used as a central communications tool before, during and after the event. That will allow the full potential to be exploited for all participants.”

The app requires that the office and organisers work together in its development. So the know-how and attitude from the micelab:bodensee platform for further education, which the team of Convention Partner Vorarlberg has acquired over recent years, was also utilised in the efforts.
